Dr. Hao Van Bui

Hao obtained a BSc. degree in Physics at Quy Nhon University in 2002, an MSc. degree in Materials Science at ITIMS, Hanoi University of Technology in 2008. From 2008 to 2012, he was a PhD. student at the Semiconductor Components Group, University of Twente, the Netherlands, where he obtained his PhD. degree in Electrical Engineering in January 2013. He worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the NanoElectronics Group, University of Twente  (November 2012 - October 2014) and at the Department of Chemical Engineering, TU Delft, the Netherlands (November 2014 - May 2017). From September 2002 to October 2018, he was also a TA/lecturer at the Department of Physics, Quy Nhon University. Since November 2018, he works as a researcher, leading the ALD Research Group at Phenikaa University.

Dr. Viet Huong Nguyen

Viet completed a BSc. in Materials Science at National Institute of Applied Science of Lyon (INSA de Lyon), France in 2013, a M.S. in Nanoscale Engineering from Ecole Centrale de Lyon, INSA de Lyon and University Lyon 1 with highest honors in 2015, and a PhD. in Materials Science & Engineering from University Grenoble Alpes in 2018. Thanks to his remarkable research work during his PhD., he has won the best Ph.D thesis prize from Chemical Society of France, Solid State Chemistry Division. From November 2018 to June 2019, Viet worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the Laboratory of Materials Science and Physical Engineering (LMGP) under the supervision of Dr. David Muñoz-Rojas and Prof. Daniel Bellet. Since August 2019, he works as a researcher in the ALD Research Group at Phenikaa University.

Dr. Viet-Thong Le

Thong obtained his BSc. degree in Physics at Quy Nhon University in 2005 and MSc. degree in Materials Science at ITIMS, Hanoi University of Technology in 2009. From 2010 to 2014, he joined the research group of Prof. Young Hee Lee at Center for Integrated Nanostructure Physics, Sungkyunkwan University, Republic of Korea and obtained his PhD. degree in Energy Science in February 2015. From 2015 to 2019, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Ozyilmaz Group at the National University of Singapore, Singapore. Since August 2019, he is a researcher at the Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Phenikaa University.

PhD Students

Hung Anh Tran Vu, Ph.D. Candidate

Hung-Anh completed his BSc. (2020) degree in Chemistry at University of Rennes I, then MSc. (2022) in Materials Sciene and Nanoscale Engineering at University of Lyon I - Claude Benard, France, respectively. He joined the ALD Research Group since March 2023. His Ph.D. research project focuses on protective functional coatings fabricated by AP-SALD for Polymer Composite materials.

Research Assistants & Master Students

Phuong Viet Cao, MSc. 


Phuong completed his BSc. degree in Pharmacy at Hanoi University of Pharmacy (2019), and subsequently graduated from the Master program in Pharmaceutical Science at Seoul National University (2023). He joined the ALD Research Group as a research assistant since April, 2023 and focuses on the applications of ALD and MLD to modify characteristics of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API).

Phan Anh Nguyen, MSc.

Phan Anh was a recipient of the prestigious Homer Hitts and CAYSS scholarships for his bachelor study at The University of New Orleans, Louisiana, the USA, where he obtained his BSc Degree ii Physics in 2019. He then moved to Chung-Ang University, South Korea for his MSc study, and obtained the Master's degree in Engineering in 2023. From April 2024, he joins ALD research group, working on ALD of energy materials for fuel cells and Li-ion batteries.

Thien Thanh Nguyen, MSc. Student


Thanh obtained a BSc. degree in Theoretical Physics at Hanoi National University of Education in 2020. He achieved 3rd prize for student scientific research at the Faculty of Physics in 2020. His work resulted in a paper published in the science magazine HNUE (Volume 65, Issue 3, 2020). After graduation, He taught Physics in English and supported students studying A-level Physics course. From Oct. 2021, he pursues master’s degree in Materials Science and Nanotechnology and works as a research assistant in the ALD Research Group at Phenikaa University.

Kim Hue Dinh, MSc. Student


Hue obtained her BSc. degree in Chemical Engineering and Technology at the University of Science, Vietnam National University with highest honors in 2021 (rank 1/60). During her undergraduate studies, she worked on increasing photocatalytic activity of graphitic carbon nitrides by coupling metal-oxides for degradation of antibiotics pollutants in aqueous environment and reduction of CO2 in gas phase. From November 2021, she studies MSc in Materials Science and works as a research assistant in the ALD Research Group at Phenikaa University.

Phi obtained his Engineering degree in Materials Technology at Phenikaa University in July 2024. After his graduation, he continues to work at the ALD Research Group as a Research Assistant, where he is currently working on ALD for pharmaceuticals.

Mai Mai Dinh

Mai is now attending the Advanced program in Materials Science and Engineering at Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST). In September 2022, she joins the ALD Research Group at Phenikaa University, focusing on ALD of nitride thin films for optical and plasmonic applications.

Ngoc Minh Nguyen

Minh is currently 3rd-year B.Sc student of the Engineering Physics program at Hanoi University of Sciene and Technology  (HUST). He joins the ALD Research Group in September 2022. His research focuses on Area-Selective thin film Deposition (ASD) with a primary focus on vapor-phase thin film formation via atomic layer deposition (ALD) .

Manh Duc Dang

Manh was ranked the top student (i.e., valedictorian) who achieved the highest score (28.85/30) for the admission to Phenikaa University in 2022. He is currently following the Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology program at the Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering, Phenikaa University. Since March 2023, he joins the ALD Research Group, working on ALD of noble metals (Pt and Pd) for energy devices and gas sensors.

Dieu is a top-ranked student of the Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology program at the Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering, Phenikaa University. Since September 2023, he joins the ALD Research Group, working on the synthesis of advanced catalysts based on Pt and Pt alloys for fuel cells.
